I thought I’d have a look at some of my favorite pictures of the Creative Photography year and show you all a run down from 10 to 1! A mixture of Portrait, Wedding, Commercial and Personal work. Not an easy decision to be honest, I’ve had a hard time narrowing it down to just 10. Here is the run down finishing at my favorite of 2011. I’ve only included one wedding image as I had a separate run down of those a few days ago!
10 – Young Ethan makes it into my 10, I love the look of happiness on his face and his new all in one stripey suit! The whole shoot was great with dozens of quality pictures from the session.
9 – Next in my fave list is this commercial picture taken of the new Marks and Spencer building in St Peter Port. I visited early in the morning for the clearest road and hoped for some great light, fortunately my early rise was rewarded with a great sunrise. This shot is a panoramic of 5 different pictures stitched together. I thought it was apt as it appears the dawn is breaking on a new era of retail in St Peter Port!
8 – Nikita and Matt’s session was a hike down a few hundred steps to the bottom of Jerbourg! Although late in the season the weather was perfect and we shot some great pictures. This is my favorite from the session, the back light from the sun throwing some flare across the left of the picture. We are shooting their wedding in 2012 and I have a feeling it’s going to be a goodun!
7 – Next up is the team from Crowd Media, Jo, Simon and James! After something unusual we found a (slightly damp) settee someone had thrown out! Using a low angle and a bit of flash we produced this cracking image from the evening. I’m always looking for contrast, not only in tones but also in subject matter – one mans rubbish and all that
6 – Next up is a recent image from Fiona and Sam’s anniversary shoot! Another 300 odd steps descended (guaranteed empty beach) to Petit Port on the south coast. I’d seen this cave on previous visits to the area and made a mental note to visit again some time. Due to the positi0ning of the beach it only gets the best light at sunset around November – January.
5 – Number 5 is Christin and the girls from The Salon! Christine was keen to get a few images for their new website that were a bit different from the norm. Christine mentioned the crane idea and after an email to the harbour master permission was granted for a shoot! We finished just in time as a boat was arriving for an unload. I think the waiting crane drivers enjoyed watching the shoot!!!
4 – Lucy makes number 4! Shooting children can often produce fantastic pictures, getting mum and dad to stand behind and wave their arms around can often help create the best images!
3 – This double exposure picture of Shanine makes it into my top three. This is another idea I’ve had for a year or so using two pictures to show Shanine nude from one angle but clothed from the reflection in the mirror. It took some planning to get it right and a bit of Photoshop but very much worth the wait!
2 – Although I’d done my run down of favorite wedding images of the year a few days ago (hence the lack of them here) I couldn’t leave out this image of Kirsty and Gareth! Certainly one of my favorite wedding images of the year and the first time I’d photographed doves being released at a wedding.
1 – Number One! It’s close but this is my favorite image of the year. It sums up my favorite style, dark, moody and beautiful. This was more of a test session with a new light I’d bought and Charlie came along to model on this chilly day! We were not out for long but I’d seen a flat section of rock by the battery at Pembroke. The sky was mixed with cloud and some lighter areas but I positioned Charlie with the darkest clouds behind her. After underexposing the sky and using the flash at full power I took this image. It looks like late evening but was taken at 11:30am in September!
Some of these images were technically quite difficult to shoot, some required thinking on my feet. All were great fun to shoot and I look forward to my run down of 2012 as I already have plenty of ideas for a great new year!
Thanks for looking and all the best for 2012.
