I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite images of the year and maybe a little of the story involved in taking them.
The countdown of the top 10 will carry on randomly until the end of the year when I’ll show my favorite of the year! The first is an image I took of Ross Gower insurance earlier this year for The Best of Guernsey!
Part of the fun of shooting for TBOG is the variety of clients/shoots! Kate mentioned maybe getting the bike int the studio but after seeing the size of the bike it was best to shoot outdoors! We took the bike to a quiet area and I mulled over how I would shoot it. One of the hardest things about professional photography is constantly thinking on your feet! You haven’t always got plenty of time to form a plan, this is something that can’t be taught but experience and a large bag full of kit can come in handy!!
I decided on the fish eye lens for a dramatic composition, it’s very wide angle of view meant I could get a dynamic angle on the bike and also have plenty of grass/bike and sun in the shot! As backs were to the sun I used a bit of off camera flash as you can see in the second picture to throw a bit of light in the faces of the Ross Gower bosses!
As you can see quite simple but effective, but the trick here was to come up with a plan in under 5 minutes!
I teach a few of these techniques in more detail on my training courses.
As you can see from the image below I had use a bit of Photoshop to clone out the flash!
